When Joe Hughes, the owner and founder of Ultimate Plumbing & Repair, heard about the family’s plight, he didn’t hesitate to render assistance! Hughes Supply of Huntersville donated a 20-gallon Rheem electric water heater. Meanwhile, Ultimate Plumbing donated labor and parts to get the family back in hot water for the coldest portion of the year.

We asked Joe how he found out about the situation, and he explained, “One of my wife’s friends volunteers for a Christian mission. She was noticing that a lady she knew here in Mooresville had no hot water since last Tuesday.”

Joe explained the type of installation, what type of water heater was installed and told us what he could about the project. He said, “Electric water heaters are the best way to go. The high-grade [inaudible] packs…brass ball valves, stuff like that.”

Joe was born and grew up in a military household. He explains that upbringing had a definite positive impact on his desire to give back to his community. “When you’re in the military, especially I was a military brat. My dad was in the military, my son’s military, my grandfather was, you know. Everybody knows the military doesn’t pay a lot, so it is a civil-servant type of duty…I started a business and I wanted to be able to give a little back…God has blessed us with our company and, as busy as we are, and I feel obligated to give back a little. It feels good to be able to give back to people who can’t afford services like this, that we can give.”
