water treatment filtersThe market is literally flooded with different types of water treatment filters. RO (reverse osmosis) systems, solid carbon block filters, loose granulated activated carbon filters, and distillers all offer clean, sparkling water, but how do you know which is best? Well, with a little research, you can find the right system for you.

  • Find out the source of your water. If you get it from a well on your property instead of municipally treated water, your requirements will be different.
  • Is your well water untreated or treated (chlorinated)? Chlorination kills viruses and bacteria. Good whole-house water treatment filters, which can remove chlorine completely, can be installed along with a solid carbon block drinking water system at the kitchen faucet. Chlorine is inexpensive to maintain and administer; it also keeps the entire system clean and free of other holding tank and pipe contaminants.
  • Is there turbidity, dirt or other organic matter in your spring water or well? If so, a good 10 – 15 micron pre-filter will remove these chunks before they get to your faucets.

Note: If anyone in your family is prone to respiratory illness or asthma, you’ll want to reduce chlorine fumes, so find out about water treatment filters that can remove 80 percent (or more) of the chlorine entering your home.
